Olio Bardelli Bottle Carrier: a luxury bag
Creating fabric bags for the food and wine sector is a real challenge. Depending on the client’s goals, brand values, and the type of product, we can design unique and always different packaging that conveys emotions to the final buyer.
In this article, we explain how we created a bottle carrier for extra virgin olive oil for the well-known Tuscan company Olio Bardelli.
The case in brief: a bag to enhance a luxury product
Olio Bardelli is a Tuscan farm producing 100% Italian extra virgin olive oil and a certified I.G.P. line. Their products reflect research, knowledge of the land, and respect for traditions and cultivation. With Olio Bardelli, the quality of a Made in Italy product is emphasized.
The oil mill contacted us to create a customised bag that could contain a small glass bottle holding a limited and premium oil line.
Our proposal: a velvet bag with gold details
Once we received the Olio Bardelli request, we immediately began working on the project. We considered different scenarios, carefully evaluating the various fabrics available, colours, and combinations with logos and lettering.
We chose a velvet-effect bag in green, with a candy-style closure and matching drawstrings. Here is how we arrived at this choice.
Fabric selection
Since this particular type of oil is a prized product, an Italian excellence addressed to a discerning clientele, we decided to protect it inside a velvet-effect bag. This fabric, based on cotton, undergoes a special treatment to recreate a velvet appearance. To the touch, the material feels delicate and soft, just like velvet, and visually it is very elegant. The advantage? Velvet-effect fabric is more affordable and easier to maintain.
A small bag for a valuable product
At the client’s request, the bag was designed to fit a small glass bottle with a linear and elegant design. A bottle made specifically for this product line.
Because this was a special line, we decided to highlight the product with a compact bag. Our first idea was to create custom packaging that fully enclosed the bottle, leaving only the glass spout exposed. However, the client was not entirely convinced. We then made a second sample bag that covered the bottle’s neck as well and took a candy shape.
Colours and gold details
After choosing the shape that, in our opinion, best enhanced the product, we moved on to selecting the colour of the bag. We chose a dark green colour, slightly shiny, recalling the colour of the earth and olives but with an added touch of luxury. To elevate the packaging further, we opted for custom graphics with a premium shiny hot foil stamping in gold. The contrast between green and gold gave the packaging a sophisticated style.
Sending the prototype for product verification
The fabric bag produced as a sample was sent to the client to personally verify whether the product met their aesthetic and functional standards. Delivery took 2-3 days.
This process is essential in our work because it allows us to discuss any revisions with the client before starting full-scale production. The client can receive a sample bag, test it, verify whether the packaging meets their expectations, or request further modifications to achieve the perfect packaging for their needs.
Limited and fast production
After prototype approval, production started, and within 7 days from approval, we delivered the 500 oil bottle carriers requested.
