Today’s case history is a bit different from the usual. Not so much in our approach (which is always tailored to the specific needs of each client), but because of the unique reality we engaged with this time. Yes, although we often collaborate with small, medium, and large companies to provide fabric packaging that acts as the first (and most important) business card for their brand, we also appreciate projects that come from unexpected places.
In fact, this one comes quietly from the heart of Casentino, among the hills of Tuscany, where a Monastery of Dominican Nuns stands. Heirs to a long-established herbal tradition, they have combined their spiritual mission with a more earthly and concrete one.
How? By transferring their knowledge into “L’Antica Spezieria”: a project that produces natural and artisanal products such as cosmetics, perfumes, oils, and ointments, inspired also by the Sacred Scriptures, which tell the story of their communal life of contemplation, prayer, as well as consistent work and dedication.
Their request: packaging that conveyed simplicity, delicacy, and rigor
They contacted us in 2020, a challenging year we all remember. Yet, despite the uncertainties of that period, the Dominican Nuns of Pratovecchio decided to pursue the production of natural cosmetics, also through a dedicated e-commerce channel.
For their packaging, they sought a natural, made-to-measure solution capable of reflecting their identity and beliefs — a combination of spirituality, expertise, and practicality.
They wanted nothing standardized. They desired a wrapping that could convey, in a handcrafted way, simplicity, delicacy, and rigor.
Sacchetti di Tessuto’s answer: the timeless velvet
We responded as we know how: by listening, discussing, and providing dedicated samples. What better material than velvet: restrained, elegant, austere. Its contrast with white evokes monastic robes. Indeed, their first choice was for black velvet bags with a drawstring closure, enhanced by a white screen-printed convent logo. This combination resulted in the initial production, delivered in batches ranging from 500 to 1000 pieces, designed to discreetly and stylishly protect their creations.
A subtle evolution, like a breath of cotton
Over time, the collaboration grew. The Nuns shared their wish for a new version of the bag: lighter, transparent, able to reveal the contents and convey a sense of purity. This led to the idea of natural cotton muslin. We suggested this fabric type for two reasons: one aesthetic, since it is ideal for delivering the ethereal and luminous touch they sought; and one practical, because thanks to its loose weave, muslin bags are:
- breathable, allowing products — especially bath goods exposed to moisture — to dry faster and better;
- lightweight and transparent, making the products inside visible;
- ecological, unlike organza, which although equally light and transparent, is polyester-based, a plastic derivative. This environmental concern aligns perfectly with the spirit of Antica Spezieria’s products, whose mission is to “celebrate the authentic beauty of nature.”
Their logo, rich with arabesques and fine graphic details, posed a technical challenge. However, thanks to the expertise of our artisan workshops, we achieved a sharp and precise reproduction that enhances every detail with respect and mastery.
A relationship renewed each year
Today, that initial supply has evolved into a solid and ongoing partnership. Orders repeat, needs evolve, and we are there, trusted partners ready to provide support, quick solutions, selected materials, and consistent quality.
Every project is a small shared journey: we develop new proposals with targeted sampling, produce in small batches to maintain craftsmanship, and select natural fabrics that reflect the monastery’s soul.
