Are you considering giving a bottle of wine to your clients, employees, or long-standing suppliers? Whether it’s a bottle of fine wine, a liqueur, or homemade limoncello, it is certainly a gift that is always much appreciated, suitable as a gesture for an important dinner, a Christmas gift, or a thanks to those who have stood by you for years.

However, when it comes to gifts, there is a very important aspect to consider alongside the gift itself: it is the packaging! A gift with beautiful and carefully crafted packaging definitely gains more value in the eyes of the recipient.

But how to package the bottle? How to wrap it so that it is easy to carry and pleasant to look at?

Despite its particular shape, there are many original ideas you can use to package your gift bottle: packaging in paper or fabric, wood, and much more.

Here are 5 ideas to package your gift bottles in original ways, using recyclable and eco-friendly packaging.

    1. A classic: paper and cardboard packaging

Paper is versatile and there are many ways to package a bottle; you can find solutions to purchase directly or you can try do-it-yourself.

For example, on the market, you can find many rigid cardboard packages with an elongated shape that easily hold bottles or, if you prefer, you can create the packaging yourself: simply roll a sheet of cardboard around the bottle, forming a cylinder, seal it with adhesive tape, and finally decorate it with custom labels and fabric bows.

Alternatively, you can opt for a postal-style package using brown or dark yellow paper sheets. The packaging is very simple:

    • place the bottle in the center of the sheet,
    • bring each side of the sheet up towards the neck of the bottle,
    • tie a knot with twine to keep the package closed,
    • use sealing wax to decorate the twine.

    2. You can use a scarf to wrap the bottle

With a scarf you can also create a beautiful and original gift packaging for bottles: in Japan, it is a true art called Furoshiki, used to wrap and pack objects with scarves and pieces of cloth. This art can be adapted to packaging two bottles: just take a square scarf made of sturdy fabric, wrap the fabric around the bottles, and with the remaining fabric make a double knot that will serve as a handle.

This is definitely a very alternative and eco-friendly idea because the scarf can be reused not only as packaging but also as a clothing accessory. Therefore, always choose a nice pattern and your gift will be a true success!

    3. Choose beautiful and eco-friendly packaging: a fabric bag

When it comes to eco-friendly packaging to package your gift bottles, we must recommend fabric bags. Popular for several years and available in many natural materials like natural cotton, juco, or hemp; they can also naturally be made from jute bags. Fabric bags can be customized in shape, color, and size. There are many options available, from higher-end fabric bags for bottles such as jute bottle carriers with bamboo wood handles to simpler options like natural jute cover bags with handles for wine and beer bottles. Designed to transport and enhance these delicate containers, fabric bags are the most suitable choice if you want a packaging solution that is comfortable, elegant, and versatile.

    4. You can create decorations with felt

Felt is widely used, especially at Christmas, for example, to create charming little hats for bottles as gifts for the holiday season. These hats are easy to make and very amusing. With simple colored felt sheets, you can create mini pointed hats or vests to dress the bottle. This requires some manual skill, but it is certainly an original idea that will be especially appreciated by those who have children at home.

    5. For more valuable gifts, choose elegant wooden packaging

For some aged liquors or barrel-aged wines, the most appropriate packaging is wood. You can make it yourself, but carving wooden packaging requires a lot of skill and experience, so we recommend turning to professionals to purchase a made-to-measure box or a ready-made solution.
